Attracting brazilian investment in Haiti

Presentation in Port-au-Prince

The past 21st and 22nd of January, in Port-au-Prince, the IDB, with the cooperation of the CFI Haiti (Center for Investments Facilitation) and Xavier Casademunt, Director and Associate Professor of ESADE Business School in Brazil, presented, in a workshop format, a report that contained detailed information about the current economic situation in Brazil and its perspectives in the short term. The workshop also included information on how to attract Brazilian investments in Haiti, in a moment when Brazilian companies need to be internationalized. Haiti, due to its geostrategic localization, and because of preferential trade agreements with the US and other big markets of the world, it is a country that offers big opportunities for Brazilian companies, as the Brazilian economy is one of the most closed in the world.

The workshop was presented in two of the strategic sectors for the attraction of investments in Haiti, as they are Garment and Agribusiness sector. Each workshop was supported and promoted by the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH) and for the Ministry of Agriculture (MARNDR), respectively, and had the participation of personalities from the politic sphere, business and consultants from the most important development agencies.

The workshop, which was the first one of a series of workshops planned from the IDB for the economic development of the country, was a success. According to some of the personalities who attended, it was very positive because it offered precise information about Brazil and how to do business with Brazilian companies and executives, along with an in-depth action plan that will serve as a tool, so the CFI, supported by the IDB, will succeed in increasing Brazilian investments in Haiti. Right after the workshop, had been already started the development of the action plan, with the preparation of marketing projects for the country, and the organization of a Brazilian Mission in Haiti in order to move forward to materialize the investments.
