Jaime Sujoy

Jaime Sujoy is serving as Vice President for Finance and Administration.  He has been an IDB staff member since 1991, when he was recruited through open competition. Previously he served as the Bank’s Representative in Chile from 2007 to 2010.

He joined the Bank to work in the economic appraisal, formulation and evaluation of infrastructure projects, especially in energy and transportation, including sector policy and regulatory issues, and has participated in some of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects financed by the Bank.

In 2001 he was appointed Chief of Country Division 1 (Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay). His main responsibilities included coordinating the preparation of Country Strategies, the operations program and portfolio supervision in these countries. In this position, he acquired ample experience in strategy formulation, policy dialogue and programming, operations oversight and the preparation of lending scenarios under different macroeconomic and debt conditions.

While serving as Country Representative in Chile, he lead the dialogue with country authorities on institutional, financial and policy issues, the identification of new operations, programming, portfolio monitoring and the oversight of operational, financial and human resources aspects, the portfolio administration and the Bank’s institutional representation in general.

He has extensive experience as a supervisor and project team leader, with proven leadership managing multidisciplinary professional teams and handling budget, financial and human resources issues, and in-depth knowledge of and experience in the different areas of the Bank’s operational work, its policies and procedures.

Before joining the Bank, he worked as an economist in his native Argentina, both in the private and public sectors; he served as National Director for Budget and Programming at the former Ministry of Public Works and as an Undersecretary for Public Companies Management in the Secretariat of Energy, among other appointments.

He graduated in 1974 with an M.S. in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and received a D.E.A. (M.S. degree) in Fiscal Policy and Planning from the University of Paris X - Nanterre, France, in 1982.
